Work 04 / Real-time performance
TRANCE
A private realm reached without leaving the public one.
TRANCE is performed live inside a real-time engine — a walking simulator played as a concert. The player-camera moves through a virtual world while MIDI and spatial audio are driven in the moment, so image and sound are steered together rather than pre-rendered. The proposition is simple and difficult: to place yourself fully in the public realm and, through trance, arrive somewhere entirely private.
The environment builds by repetition and pressure — a luminous carousel against black, mirrored halls, a slow circling — until attention lets go of the room it is standing in. It is a study in mind, body and the space that holds neither.
Instrument
The engine is treated as an instrument. A gamepad drives the camera through the world while a MIDI controller shapes an Ableton Live score in real time; nothing is on rails, so each performance is a different route and a different piece of music.
